Heather Ulrich Joins Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative

[READING, PENNSYLVANIA, October 2021] – Heather Ulrich has been named project manager for Berks Teens Matter, taking over the position just last month.

She comes to Berks Teens Matter with a diverse background in project management, case work and advocacy education.

Heather earned her degree in applied psychology from Penn State Berks and worked in both intake and adoption case work for Children and Youth Services for Berks County. She saw the importance of developing a delicate balance between helping both the children and families she was serving. “I’m very much an advocate at heart.”

Later she would work for the Berks County District Attorney’s Office, transitioning into a roll that focused more on system based advocacy. As the Outreach and Education Coordinator for the Victim’s Witness Assistance Unit, she educated the community about support and resources available to victims of crime. As a seasoned public speaker, Heather has spoken about crime victims’ rights, sexual assault and child abuse.

In her new position as project manager for Berks Teens Matter, Heather will be once again be in a role to educate the community about support and resources, but this time with a focus on teen adolescent sexual health. “There are a lot of similar topics with healthy relationships, interpersonal abuse, so there is a lot I can hit the ground running with.”

“I see the need and there is so much room for improvement,” she says about today’s sexuality education. “It’s not just about healthy relationships, it’s also power and control. And educating youth so they’re empowered to make the best decisions.”

Heather grew up in the area, attending Muhlenberg High School and Penn State Berks. She lives in Berks County with her husband and son and enjoys family time watching movies and cooking.
